17TH CENTURY GERMANY: BUXTEHUDE AND THE BOYS
with Scott Metcalfe, guest leader and violin
Lead by Scott Metcalfe, the PBO’s final concert of the season features vocal music by the great Dieterich Buxtehude, best known for his organ solos, but who also wrote a large amount of profound and moving ensemble music. Our forces will consist of four singers and the typically 17th-century German string consort of two violins, two violas, violone, and continuo. The program includes chorale concertos, works built on a ground bass, and solos by Buxtehude, as well as instrumental sonatas and vocal music by his contemporaries such as Kerll, Ignaz, Biber, and Schmelzer.
