SALZBURG SERENADE: MOZART'S EARLY YEARS

When Archbishop Colloredo took over cultural, political and spiritual influence in Salzburg in 1772, then 16-year-old Mozart’s focus as a composer shifted from court and church music to include secular and chamber genres. Though he quickly outgrew his birthplace, Mozart’s time in Salzburg was filled with many exciting and refined compositions, the pinnacle of which are his three Divertimenti for strings, the Salzburg Symphonies. The program will pair these great works with pieces by Mozart’s contemporaries on the Salzburg scene, including Michael Haydn and his father Leopold Mozart.
